Gore and Pelosi, gearing up for Global Warming Testimony in Congress!

Sun Mar 18, 2007 at 06:47:12 PM PDT

I am going to include, below, two messages.  One is from Gore and one is from our Madame Speaker.  They are gearing up for Gore's testimony before congress.
This is NOT about Gore running for President.  It is about getting congress to act on this issue.  I hope everyone will read and react to the message.

If you have signed the petition, please send it out to everyone you know and get them to sign.  It would be great to get over 300K people to sign it.  For every signiture, Gore is going to deliver a post card to the appropriate congresscritter.

DC Protest..In which Bush eating pooties makes people laugh

Sun Jan 28, 2007 at 07:12:14 AM PDT

Okay, so maybe an anti-war protest isn't supposed to be funny.  But I find almost everything funny in one way or another. I often get accused of "innapropriate laughter", God Forbid!

Anyway, Jim and I made our poster on friday night and our first idea was to "Impeach Cheney first". As an after thought we made the other side different.

Join me for yet another picture diary of the protest in DC.

Message from NARAL

Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 06:58:21 PM PDT

I know that many people here disaprove of NARAL, thinking they should be endorsing only democrats.  Frankly I find the idea that NARAL should be the handmaiden of the Democratic party offensive and I trust the organization to protect women's rights way before I trust the democratic party.

I am pretty damn sure the democrats would throw "Choice" out the window in a heart beat if they thought that meant more power in the polls.  For that reason groups like NARAL must be non partisan. That's such a no brainer that I won't even discuss it anymore.  But I suppose I can't stop anyone else from doing so.

BTW... in another strike against the idea that this election was a win for conservative democrats, two thirds of those who won are pro-choice. With rare exception these were pro-choice democrats who unseated anti-choice republicans.

One more push for MOVE-ON, Call For Change (we are calling Ohio right now)

Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 03:39:25 PM PDT

Hi Folks,

I couldn't let this day pass without doing one more push to get people calling for move-on.

All the grumpy non democrats have been culled from the list and we are calling MOSTLY (can't promise completely)happy happy democrats who want change.

We need you to help push those last people out of the house to vote... or thank them for voting.

Join me through the Looking glass.

Emily's list calls for help in un-seating Jefferson of the 90k in frozen cash

Sun Nov 05, 2006 at 10:32:14 AM PDT

November 7th is the Louisiana primary for the house seat of William Jefferson, he of the freezer full of 90k bucks.  LA. is weird, election day acts as the primary and you only win if you get over 50 percent or some such thing.  If you do not, then you have to face a run off vote of the top two candidates.

We can't be the party of reform if we do not get rid of someone as corrupt as William Jefferson.  In LA they have a good candidate to replace him but she needs help.  Her name is Karen Carter, she is a pro-choice African American woman who is a really good fit for the district.  If she wins she will be the FIRST African American woman to represent LA. in the US Congress.

Below is the email I received.

I was calling people for Move-on and I had a really funny call.  I'd like to tell you about it but first I am asking you to please recommend this diary.  We are just three days from a MAJOR election and all of us can do more than we are already doing.

There have been some really silly diaries on the rec list, all kinds of rants and hyperbole and even some that border on tin foil hattery.  I think there was an I/P argument there for a few hours today.

Recomend my farking diary dkos!!

Most of the time I do not care what appears on the rec list.  But I have to think that at this late date we can have one that encourages people to do phone banking. It doesn't have to be mine.  I have tried to get other people's diaries on this topic recomended over the last few days.

So enter and read my story and the latest pleas from various groups and my personal plea.

Do it because Al Gore asks you to.. I certainly have

Thu Nov 02, 2006 at 10:10:35 AM PDT

Here is another plea to get people calling for change.  I know that most of you are busy already.  This is something you can do 5 calls at a time if you must, after coming home from work or canvassing or whatever.

Do it because Al Gore was doing it himself today....

An email to my son about veterans, politics, history and war

Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 02:10:05 PM PDT

My son forwarded me one of those emails.  You know the ones, they are designed to try and get an emotional response and to shut off your brain.
It is not so much that you disagree with the email, it's just that it is manipulative.

This one was about Veterans, about how they are the ones who gave us everything good in this country.  You know, because none of this would be possible if they had not fought.

And it is annoying because you never get these emails about the brilliance of the judiciary or great immigrants of history.  That would encourage people to think like liberals I imagine.

Still my son sent this to me for a very sweet reason and it made my day.

cross over the dotted line and read my response to him.

You think you have nothing left to give for this election...but you do

Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 09:06:45 AM PDT

I like to occasionally share an email I get from some organization I belong to....just in case there is an oportunity you are not aware of because you are not signed up for all the same organizations.

Here is one I got from True Majority encouraging me to team up with Move-on.

Iraq better off under Saddam, says Blix

Fri Oct 27, 2006 at 03:25:32 PM PDT

Former United Nations chief weapons inspector Hans Blix on Wednesday described the United States-led invasion of Iraq as a "pure failure" that had left the country worse off than under the rule of Saddam Hussein.

I think many people have said this now.  Wasn't Senator Rockefeller one of them?

IMO, we could have paid Saddamm to behave better for a lot less money and lives.  But the truth may also be that Iraq needs a "strongman dictator" to keep the different factions in order.

Use it or Lose it...Why Franks and Schiff are heroes and others aren't yet

Wed Oct 25, 2006 at 01:26:18 PM PDT

There has been a lot of talk on dkos about the 30 percent project.  There has been a ton of misunderstanding, nuanced defenses against giving and claimed victim-hood by the supporters (and staff people I am quite sure) of some congress people and senators.

Of late the ranting diaries here have bored the hell out of me and left me seeking something more interesting and thoughtful to read and I swore I would never write one of my own again.  But I am about to break my promise to myself because I feel a rant coming on and I think there are a few people in power who need to be a bit more aware of what their obligation to us and to this nation is.  Clue: it is not about anyone's re-election or personal power and ambition.

If something I have to say motivates someone here to make a call or two to a congress-critter, all the better.

Oprah doing a show with Frank Rich NOW

Thu Oct 12, 2006 at 01:07:42 PM PDT

He is on her show and they are talking about bush lying us in to war.  They are also looking at the question if truth matters to us and are we critical thinkers.

I have to use up space to get this diary to post.  This is powerful, she reaches millions of people.

Calling all Architecture Geeks, Identify This Old House edition

Sat Oct 07, 2006 at 11:04:28 AM PDT

Lately for reasons I won't go in to, I have been watching the real estate market.  I have preferences in architecture and it does NOT elan towards McMansions or generic "modern" housing.

I need some help in identifying the age of a house on the local market.  The year built was not listed and the agent was able to tell me some interesting facts about the house that might give someone who knows more than me about building a clue about the age of the house.

And of course feel free to share your thoughts on your house, you favorite housing styles, remodling old homes etc...
